Comprehensive Veterinary Exams in Mansfield, TX
Your Pet’s Wellness Starts with Regular Exams
At Mira Lagos Animal Clinic, our biggest priority is making sure your pets live long, healthy lives. This starts with regular checkups with our Mansfield veterinarians. As part of our focus on preventative medicine, we recommend that you bring your dogs or cats into the clinic for a checkup at least every six months. Some pets may need to visit us more frequently, but we’ll make sure that your pet is getting the care they need.
What Happens During a Physical Exam?
A physical exam for your dog or cat is very similar to a physical exam for humans. It isn’t invasive or painful. One of our Mansfield veterinary professionals will examine your pet from nose to tail, looking at your pet’s eyes and ears, examining their teeth, and feeling along their body for any lumps or growths. Part of the physical exam involves just looking at your pet: is your pet’s fur shiny? Are their eyes bright? Is their nose wet? We’ll listen to your pet’s chest for their breathing and heartbeat. We’ll observe how your pet walks and stands to check for any joint issues.
We will also ask you general questions about your pet’s overall health. It’s important for us to get a full history of your pet’s health to help us better understand their needs.
We’ll ask questions about:
- Bowel movements
We’ll take all of these factors into consideration as we evaluate your pet’s health and determine a wellness plan going forward. Your pet’s specific characteristics will inform our recommendations. Different pets have different needs, and it’s important that we personalize your pet’s healthcare for the best possible results.
In addition to the physical exam, we’ll likely recommend that we conduct some laboratory tests as well. These tests will help us get a look at what’s going on inside your pet and understand your pet’s health beyond what we can see on the outside. These tests could include fecal check, blood testing, or urinalysis. Our in-house laboratory will run these tests so you get your pet’s results back quickly.
Depending on your pet’s health and how they’re currently feeling, our Mansfield veterinarians may recommend other testing. We might notice some warning signs during your pet’s physical exam that would indicate a need for more testing. Your pet’s age or breed may also influence whether we suggest further testing. Ultimately, we want to prevent disease, so your pet lives a long, healthy life.
